INTERNET ACCESS:

4 Mbps Broad Band Internet connections are provided for enhancing classroom study and for access to the electronic resources. 44 computer systems are available in the digital library to access internet. Internet will be available to the students and faculty from 8.00 a.m to 12 midnight on all days.

E-BOOKS & E-JOURNALS

PSG IMS& R Central library subscribes to online journals and E–Books. E-Books and E-Journals support the learning and research needs of the students and faculty. In addition, a unique collection of useful standalone online journals and e-books free on the internet are made available to the users in the campus.

E-question bank

It offers access to a set of question papers of all the courses offered by Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University. This E-Question Bank database comprises old question papers in all subjects from 1990 till date. This is categorised as Undergraduate, Post Graduate, Higher Specialty and P.G.Diploma papers.

E-Dissertation -Medical

It offers access to dissertations submitted by post-graduates, doctoral and super speciality students from the affiliated colleges of The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University. E-Access to dissertations from 2005 onwards is available in the web address below.

The Lippincott Williams & Wilkins journal(s) 200 titles are accessible through OVID Platform. The institution subscriptions have been made for two users; therefore only two clients can logon at the same time within the PSG IMS & R Campus. PROQUEST MEDICAL COMPLETE™

PQMC The database has over 4,400 titles, with more than 1,500 medical titles in full text (selected journals are available in colour) with abstracts and indexing from the well-known MEDLINE® database. ProQuest Medical complete provides a strong, stable foundation for any library wishing to build and expand its clinical and biomedical journal collection. The database includes all charts, diagrams, graphs; tables, photos, and other graphical elements essential to medical research. The journals cover all major clinical and healthcare disciplines, including cardiovascular diseases, pediatrics, neurology, respiratory diseases, dentistry, anesthesiology, and others.

CLINICALKEY

Users of ClinicalKey are given full-text access to over 500 of Elsevier’s journals, 1000 books, and 9,000 medical and procedural videos. To help users decide which are the most relevant articles and authoritative authors, the system provides a series of original reviews by subject matter experts known as First Consult. The search engine is aided by taxonomy tags known as “smart content” that uses EMMeT (Elsevier Merged Medical Taxonomy), and a selection of filtering tools including by journal or textbook, clinical guidelines or clinical trials, First Consult reviews, images, or the US National Institute of Health’s MEDLINE database (of journal citations and abstracts for bio medical literature). Users can also export citations, images and copyright information into PowerPoint presentations.

UPTODATE

UpToDate is a subscription-based resource designed to provide physicians access to current clinical information. It addresses specific clinical issues in the form of topic reviews. According to UpToDate, it “is designed to get physicians the concise, practical answers they need when they need them most—at the point of care.” Topic reviews are written by physician experts who review the literature then synthesize the information into specific recommendations for diagnosis, management, and therapy. UpToDate covers primarily internal medicine and its subspecialties. Currently, UpToDate includes information for the following: adult primary care and internal medicine, cardiovascular medicine, endocrinology and diabetes, family practice, gastroenterology and hepatology, hematology, infectious diseases, nephrology and hypertension, obstetrics, gynecology and women’s health, oncology, pulmonary and critical care, and rheumatology etc

THOMSON REUTERS MICROMEDEX (Drug Database)

MICROMEDEX is a collection of many different drug databases, including Martindale, the Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR), DRUGDEX, DISEASEDEX, POISONDEX, and several alternative medicine databases. Drugs can be searched by trade name, generic name, or even “street” name. MICROMEDEX is an excellent source of drug indication, dosage, drug interaction and side effect information, as well as poison control information. It covers all FDA approved medications as well as a database of alternative medicines. It can produce patient-specific PALS and ACLS emergency dosing sheets for use at the bedside in an ICU situation. In addition, MICROMEDEX contains a variety of dosing tools, patient education handouts and a “clinical pearls” section, which is a collection of useful medical tables on a variety of topics.

DELNET has been established with the prime objective of promoting resource sharing among the libraries through the development of a network of libraries. It has been actively engaged with the compilation of various Union Catalogues of the resources available in member-libraries. It has already created the Union Catalogue of Books, Union List of Current Periodicals, Union Catalogue of Periodicals, CD-ROM Database, Database of Indian Specialists, Database of Periodical Articles, Union List of Video Recordings, Urdu Manuscripts’ Database, Database of Theses and Dissertations, sample databases of language publications using GIST technology and several other databases.
