Anatomy
The Department of Anatomy started in 1984 has been there since the inception of the college. Anatomy is an essential component of all undergraduate medicine programs in PSG Medical College. It is a one year course and forms a part of one of the basic sciences for MBBS. Teaching is conducted at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels while ensuring that anatomy education is of the highest standard. The research and teaching undertaken in the Department of Anatomy and Histology are both supported by well-equipped facilities.

Anatomy Labs:
Dissection Theatre:
The facilities available in the department include a state of the art well ventilated Dissection theatre with 25 cadavers, 8 large storage tanks and small SS tanks for storage, Stainless steel dissection tables, Embalming facilities [Funeral and cadaveric embalming] and Cold storage facility which can accommodate 25 bodies.
We have Electric (Band) saw, Hack saw, Chisels, Hammer, Forceps- Toothed, Non-Toothed, Artery forceps, Retractors, Probes, Scissors, Bone nibbler, Bone cutter, Brain Knife and Scalpels for effective and fine dissection. We provide all the required dissection instruments to students to dissect and learn.
Research Lab:
Well equipped research lab with automatic tissue processor, one Embedding Machine, 3Incubators, 2 Digital balance, 1 Physical Balance, 2 Microtomes, 1 BOD Incubator, Magnetic stirrer plus Slide warmer, 3 Refrigerator and
1 Hot Air Oven. The research studies are done comfortably with the help of 6 Binocular microscopes, one Binocular microscope with photomicrographic attachment available in our lab.
Histology Lab:
Histology or microscopic anatomy is taught through lectures and demonstrations in small groups.
The Histology Laboratory is well equipped with 244 monocular microscopes which are available for students to use. Demonstrations are done using two binocular microscopes with CCTV attachments. 11 Dissection microscopes are available to study Neuroanatomy sections.
We have more than 1000 slides available for students to learn. Slides are constantly replaced with new slides made in our research lab. Tissues are harvested for slide making with the help of our animal lab after following proper ethical guidelines.
Teaching & Learning Facilities
Learning materials:
We have 13 articulated human skeletons, 8 skeleton models, 90 sets of disarticulated human bones, plain and contrast X-rays, MRI and CT images and charts showing clinical scenarios for the students to learn.
Demonstration rooms:
There are 4 demonstration rooms with a seating capacity for 110 students each besides a seminar room and mandatory locker facilities for students.
Our well lit & ventilated demonstration rooms are equipped with LCD projector, black & white boards which are used to conduct small group discussions and SGTs. We have 3 multi film X-Ray view boxes which help students to learn radiological anatomy.
Department Library:
The library is provided with 245 books and 2 journals. We has access to many online journals as well. All books are upgraded every year. Newer books are purchased to learn the latest trends in teaching and learning anatomy. A strong emphasis is placed on teaching which is done by experienced and dedicated faculty.
Museum:
The pride of our department is anatomy museum which houses 473 well dissected wet specimens which are displayed with labeled photographs for self learning. We also have a dry models section with exhibits of bones, organ models, embryology models and charts.
