Throughout the year, our department is dedicated to educating second and third-year MBBS students, equipping them to handle various medicolegal situations. These include the examination of skeletal remains, radiological analysis and age determination, dental analysis and age determination, and the certification of various medicolegal situations such as leave, fitness, and medicolegal certification of death. Students also learn foetal examination, postmortem report analysis, and evidence collection in situations involving sexual assaults, accidents, and intoxication. Mandatory visits to nearby government medical colleges, such as Coimbatore Medical College’s Forensic Medicine department, allow students to observe autopsies and understand the legal duties of doctors, helping them grasp the real-world applications of their studies. The department also conducts regular mentor-mentee activities to identify educational gaps and recognize outstanding graduates. Along with routine internal assessment examinations, regular remedial measures like tutoring and debates are conducted. Regular model practical exams and revision sessions help students prepare for future exams. Integrated teaching hours enhance and elevate students’ potential by providing a comprehensive view of each case. Similarly, sessions on AETCOM (Attitude, Ethics, and Communication) address various dilemmas and situations related to medical ethics, preparing undergraduates to become doctors of global relevance.
