Our vision is to build a healthier community by bringing active minds and rigorous research together in the crucible of collaborative clime.
We promote health by researching the intersection of fundamental and clinical, health and disease, cellular and community, evidence and practice, translation and treatment.
PSG CMMT is an exclusive center located in the premises of PSG IMSR and Hospitals, thus fostering an interdisciplinary approach to biological research. The idea of molecular research was instilled as early as 2005 with the international exposure and training of the faculty from PSG-CMMT. The center started functioning with its first project which was a collaborative effort between PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research and University of Queensland, Australia. The project explored the organ volume changes in obese patients, and the results were published in “The Open Obesity Journal“.
Our next effort was a genetic study of a rare dermatological disease condition called Haim-Monk syndrome and the study was published in an international journal. In the year 2009, the center received its first break through two grants from Department of Biotechnology, and then we received two more grants from ICMR. Thus, PSG-CMMT holds several active grants from DBT and ICMR. The center also received an International collaborative grant from ICMR.
PSG-CMMT has access to cutting edge research facility, both at PSG-CMMT and at other PSG Institutes, and our greatest advantage lies in our access to physicians and patients within the campus at PSG Hospitals. Our major areas of focus include Non communicable diseases, Rheumatoid arthritis and Tuberculosis. To carry out Mycobacterium tuberculosis research a separate Biosafety level III Biocantianment facility is developed in PSG CMMT. A world class flow cytometry facility is also available to study cell markers both for clinical and research purpose. PSG CMMT also offers flowcytometry based CD4 and CD8 counts for HIV patients and also does leukemia and lymphoma immunopheno typing.
The recent additions to PSG CMMT are NGS and LCMS.
PSG CMMT is affiliated with CPCSEA accredited animal house with facilities to carry out research studies with large animals.
We wish to expand in the area of molecular medicine at PSGIMS&R and foster quality research.
Dr. Ramalingam Sankaran was a Clinician and Pharmacologist by training. After a career as an educator at PSG institute of Medical Sciences and Research (PSGIMSR), Coimbatore, India, he pursued his post-Doctoral research at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California, USA and University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. His vision for establishing cutting edge research facility transpired to reality when he established CMMT to foster quality research among the students and faculty.
PSG CMMT’s state of the art facility houses the following equipments and with many more to be added in the near future.
