Dedicated to research and patient care related to skin diseases, the Department of Dermatology was founded in 1989, the same year the PSG Hospitals was established. Its founding Head of the Department was Dr Sumitra, who laid the roadmap for the future. From its modest beginnings, it has gone on to offer some of the best facilities available for both inpatients as well as outpatients.
From keloids, or the growth of extra scar tissues, and vitiligo, a skin condition in which white patches occur, to hair loss and eczema, a disorder with severe itching and oozing, the department offers various detection measures and treatment. Some of the treatments include iontophoresis, or passage of electrical current through skin.

An upgraded photo therapy and a diagnostic laboratory are also available. The latter is involved in bed side investigations such as KOH mount, slit skin smear for AFB and Giemsa stains for Herpes. Skin biopsy and Immunofluoresence are other special investigations
