STUDENT GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL COMMITTEES (SGRC)

The Student Grievance Redressal Committee (SGRC) has been established to provide a transparent and effective mechanism for addressing and resolving the concerns of students. This policy ensures that grievances are handled promptly, fairly, and in accordance with the institutional guidelines and regulatory frameworks.

Objectives

The objectives of the committee are as follows:

i. To provide an opportunity for the students to freely express their grievance
ii. To set up a mechanism for speedy and expeditious resolution of the grievance.

Definition of Grievance:

A “grievance” refers to any complaint made by an aggrieved student regarding issues such as improper admissions, irregularities in the admission process, false or misleading information in the prospectus, withholding of documents, excessive fees, discrimination, scholarship delays, exam or result delays, failure to provide promised amenities, unfair evaluation practices, denial of refunds, lack of promised quality education, harassment or victimization, and any actions taken by the institution that violate laws, regulations, or policies set by the institution or governing bodies. Prospectus:

PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University. Admissions to MBBS, Postgraduate, and Super-speciality courses are conducted through a single-window system managed by the Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. This committee oversees admissions for all Medical, Dental, and Paramedical courses in Government Colleges and Government Quota seats in Self-financing Colleges.

Procedure for redressal of grievances by student grievance redressal committees:

  • Students can register their grievance through a letter and drop in the drop box located in the Academic Cell.
  • The grievance will be handed over to the Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee, by the secretary of the Academic cell in a sealed cover.
  • The Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee, shall fix a date for hearing the complaint which shall be communicated to the institution and the aggrieved student.
  • An aggrieved student may appear either in person or authorize a representative to present the case.
  • In considering the grievances before it, the SGRC shall follow principles of natural justice.
  • The SGRC shall send its report along with any recommendations, to the Principal of the institution concerned and a copy thereof to the aggrieved student, preferably within a period of 15 working days from the date of receipt of the complaint.
  • Any student aggrieved by the decision of the Students’ Grievance Redressal Committee may prefer an appeal to the Ombudsperson, within a period of fifteen days from the date of receipt of such decision.
